If you follow my events and news you will know that one of my other passions is drawing and illustration and I had the opportunity to work on an exciting project.
The White-winged Flufftail is one of the critically endangered birds in Africa. It’s an elusive wetland bird that migrates from Ethiopia to South Africa every year.
With a group of researchers (including the author of this book) we have worked at the Berga Wetland to monitor the population of the birds. We look for ways to conserve the wetland in cooperation with the community.
This children’s book was published with the help of Open Hearts Big Dreams in order to increase literacy and help encourage children to continue protecting the nests of these special birds.

I received an award by the Open Hearts Big Dreams Fund for a children’s book on the White-winged Flufftail which is a species we have worked on for a couple of years.
Open Hearts Big Dreams Fund has been working tirelessly to make sure that children in Ethiopia have access to beautiful and colorful books which tell relatable stories for our kids. They have printed over 120 titles, in various local languages and freely distributed these books all over Ethiopia.
OHBD has also started a new campaign – conservation education to help make our kids aware about our biodiversity, endangered species and get them involved in conserving our natural resources.
